Ready! Set! Low Carb!

Going Low Carb? Can it help you lose weight?

October 24, 2021

Low carb can be lots of fun ... if you don't overdo it.The nice thing about it: everyone can have their own tailor-made plan ... Lose a lot or a little? Sweet or salty? Anything goes with low carb. Count calories? Forget about it! Only carbohydrates need to be reduced. Especially the bad ones made from sugar and white flour. How long? Everyone can decide for themselves.

I want to encourage you to go low carb not no carb.  No carb is only for super-weight watchers, and it is certainly not healthy. But an enjoyable low carb diet that everyone monitors themselves, with lots of vegetables and protein, is fun and (ful)filling.

Lose weight in a do-it-yourself kit!

All you have to do is take the basic concepts to heart and study a few grocery lists on the internet.

This list HERE! doesn’t bombard you with all kinds of unwanted stuff and gives a good first overview of items that should be on your grocery list. Good for runners and walkers alike. But there are countless others. Just click your way around the internet under the search term “Low Carb”.

It takes you back a bit to the good old times when our mothers used the Food Combining Diet (separating proteins from carbs) to lose weight successfully.

However, low carb is more consistent, because low carb means leaving out or reducing the side dishes ... pasta, rice, potatoes. And that nasty white sugar. Birch sugar like xylitol is ok. Sweetener too, although it is controversial because many consider it harmful to your health.

The good news: fat is not a no-go when it comes to low carb!

Good fats like olive oil and coconut oil are especially fine, but a bit of butter isn't bad either.

And one more piece of good news: with cheese, yogurt, and cottage cheese, the higher the fat content, the better.

Why? Because full-fat dairy products contain next to no or very few carbohydrates.

For example, I'm currently crazy about my homemade almond yogurt mix with fresh fruits and a nice spoonful of cream. Tasty and filling!

I have even more good news ...

Almonds and nuts are also allowed. Of course, not the salty roasted version, but cashews, for example, walnuts, sunflower seeds, or pecans. So nibbling is allowed. Even homemade roasted almonds with xylitol sugar. You don’t believe me? I'll get you the recipe soon.

Now all you have to do is cross off the wrong items of your shopping list ...

Thanksgiving is coming soon. Check how tight your pants will feel after the holiday feast, because then you decide how low your low-carb program should be.

For example, in the morning I often eat my good, homemade sourdough bread or a whole grain muffin with butter or cheese.

No or very little jam or honey, of course, but as you can see, I don't go without (healthy) carbohydrates at breakfast.

For the rest of the day, however, low carb is the order of the day. Stay consistent.

Legumes are good and very filling, eggs, pancakes, or waffles made from almond flour, baked tofu sticks with peanut butter ... do I have to say more?

Now it's your turn!

You want to know more? You just have to read a little bit into the topic because there is no one strategy for everyone. But that little bit of reading is really not a big deal. The internet is full of good articles about low carb.

I will also post my podcast “Eating Low Carb – What are the rules, and can it help you lose weight?”. If you don’t want to miss it, you can subscribe HERE to my podcast series “The PJ WellnessShow”.
